Our Services

Cardiovascular Center

The Bay Area Cardiovascular Center offers a range of services and physician specialties to Patients with heart or vascular conditions. Physicians, nurse practitioners and clinicians work with patients to help them improve their quality of life

  • Diagnostic testing
  • Cardiac cathertization
  • Cardiac interventional procedures
  • Cardiac rehabilitation
  • Pacemaker Clinic
  • Cardiac monitoring
  • Vascular procedures

Bay Area Medical Center uses a number of advanced technology procedures to help detect heart conditions in patients. Through various forms of testing, technologists and
physicians can observe the heart’s movement and pumping action, electrical activity, and changes in heart rate, heart rhythm and blood pressure. Images of the heart chambers, valves and surrounding structures can also be produced. These testing services can help detect issues related to coronary artery disease and other heart conditions, such as abnormal anatomy, inflammation around the heart and defects of the heart valves.

  • Stress testing
  • Electrocardiogram (EKG)
  • Echocardiogram
  • Dobutamine stress echocardiogram
  • Transesophageal echocardiogram (TEE)
  • Cardiac nuclear medicine (exercise or drug induced)
  • Tilt table testing
  • Sleep disorder testing

Cardiac catheterization

The purpose of cardiac catheterization is to find out if you have disease in your coronary arteries and valves, and if so, pinpoint the size and location of fat and calcium deposits (plaque) that may have built up in your coronary arteries from atherosclerosis.

In 2003 BAMC installed a state-of-the-art cardiovascular interventional suite. It is a specially designed x-ray room that is used to diagnose heart and vascular disease. Cardiac catheterization, or "cardiac cath" for short, is a more accurate test to determine how well the heart is pumping and how well the coronary arteries and heart valves are working. During this outpatient procedure, a cardiologist will insert a narrow, flexible tube into a blood vessel and direct it toward the heart. A small amount of dye is then injected and x-ray pictures are taken. This relatively painless procedure provides vital information for assessing heart conditions.

Cardiac rehabilitation

Cardiac rehabilitation (rehab) is a comprehensive program designed to help people with heart disease recover faster, improve their physical function, deal with the many emotional aspects of heart attack or heart surgery, and return to full, productive lives.  The therapy includes medical evaluation, prescribed exercise, cardiac risk factor reduction, education, and support and counseling. The education usually consists of nutritional counseling, cholesterol level management, weight reduction, diabetes control, smoking cessation, blood pressure management and stress reduction.

Pacemaker Clinic

Pacemakers are electronic devices that stimulate either the upper chamber of the heart (atrium) or the lower chamber(s) and ventricle(s).

ICD’s (Internal Cardiac Defibrillators) are built with an internal device that can shock the heart back into a regular rhythm, should a dangerous rhythm occur.

Pacemakers need to be checked regularly at a pacemaker clinic or monitored by telephone to check battery status and pacemaker function. Bay Area Medical Center offers a pacemaker clinic at its cardiovascular center.

A pacemaker check (interrogation) takes approximately 15 minutes and is preformed by a qualified RN. BAMC has state-of-the-art programmers to check all types of pacemakers. Appropriate function and diagnostic information is obtained. If any changes are necessary for a patient’s particular pacemaker to maintain battery longevity, these changes can be programmed into your device at your pacemaker visit.

Cardiac monitoring

Patients may have symptoms such as chest pain, indigestion, heartburn, weakness, sweating, nausea, cramping or shortness of breath. Chest pain is a common symptom that can be caused by many different conditions. Some causes of chest pain, such as angina, heart attack or tearing of the aorta, require prompt medical attention.

When a physician feels that symptoms may be related to the heart, cardiac monitoring services may be used. Patients can be evaluated and monitored over a 24-hour period to help diagnose or rule out a heart attack or other cardiac condition.

Services include:

  • Chest pain evaluation
  • Electrocardiogram (EKG)
  • 24 hour EKG-holter monitoring
  • 24 hour blood pressure monitoring
  • Noninvasive cardiac output monitoring
