Our Services

Rehabilitation and Occupational Health Services

The Bay Area Mobility Center is the home of a wide range of services that are all centered on movement or mobility. Whether it’s recovering from a sprained ankle, coming back from an on-the-job injury, meeting the special needs caused by a childhood disease or recovering from surgery, our goal is to give our patients back their ability to move through life.

The center is spacious and comfortable, with more than 20,000 square feet of space on a single floor. It is located right across Shore Drive from Bay Area Medical Center and is within one block of 10 different physician offices, making it very convenient for patients who may have more than one appointment on a particular day. It houses all the Bay Area Medical Center services previously offered at the Main Street location, as well as four physicians’ offices and a new warm water pool for aquatic therapy.

Mobility Center has been named "Place To Be" by Med Travelers.

New aquatic therapy pool

The 16 by 20-foot warm-water therapy pool is an option for patients who are experiencing pain, restricted motion, or decreased strength or mobility. Many people are restricted in the amount of exercise or activities they can perform because of pain or weakness. When in the water, patients’ pain is reduced and they can begin rehabilitation sooner. Water supports the body, reduces joint stress and provides resistance and assistance to movement.

The pool features a hydrolift chair for patients who may have a problem using the ladders to enter the pool. The pool depth ranges from three to five feet so patients do not need to know how to swim to take advantage of aquatic therapy. There’s an in-the-water treadmill and resistance jets, along with a variety of restrictive and floatation devices to meet specific therapy needs. Your therapy will be done with one-on-one direction by a licensed therapist or therapy assistant who will be with you in the pool area at all times. Private locker rooms are also available for men, women and families to change their clothes before and after sessions.

Patients find that doing their therapy in the pool protects their joints during exercise, reduces stress, and decreases swelling and pain. The time spent in the pool will help increase circulation, strength and endurance, while also improving balance and coordination.

Physical and occupational therapy

Patients often come to Bay Area Medical Center for therapy after an injury, surgery or illness to regain the movement and mobility they had previously. The large gym area, with a wide range of equipment, is one of the areas in which this takes place. Your time in the gym will be supervised by one of Bay Area Medical Center’s licensed therapists and therapy assistants who will focus on your healing and recovery. The goal is to offer a friendly and personal atmosphere where you feel at home while receiving therapy. The gym is equipped with more than 30 different pieces of equipment in a relaxed and motivating environment. It includes balance equipment, Cybex machines that offer a full range of workout activities, and conditioning equipment such as stationary arm and leg bikes, treadmills and stair-steppers. Directly adjacent to the gym area are 20 rooms where therapies can be done in greater privacy. The occupational therapy treatment room offers a setting for patients to work on daily living skills and for upper extremity injuries and splinting treatment.

Occupational health services

For more than a decade, Bay Area Medical Center has partnered with area business and industry to provide comprehensive, cost-effective occupational health services. The new center presents a variety of opportunities to better meet that goal. Bay Area Medical Center continues to offer services that include injury care, physicals, drug and alcohol screenings, and educational programs. The treatment team is led by a board-certified independent occupational health physician who is available at the center full time.

The occupational health section also includes four private exam rooms, a procedure room that physicians can use for minor procedures such as stitching or stitch removal, and access to on-site x-ray services. Worker rehab is done in the Mobility Center gym. The goal is to provide each company a “one-stop shop” for the prevention and treatment of work-related illnesses and injuries.

Pediatrics

At Bay Area Medical Center our emphasis is providing quality care for children with special needs. Our expert team works dilligently to meet the needs of the children and their families. The Mobility Center has a special pediatric gym where therapists can address a variety of developmental problems. The gym offers a room where parents can watch through two-way mirrors while the therapist is works with their child. Bay Area Medical Center offers a full range of pediatric aquatic therapy services in the new pool.
