Rehabilitation: Speech therapy

Bay Area Medical Center’s speech-language pathologists specialize in communication disorders as well as swallowing disorders for patients of all ages. Speech therapy collaborates with other health care professionals, working as part of a multidisciplinary team to best serve the unique needs of each patient. Speech services begin with initial screening for communication and swallowing disorders and continue with diagnosis, consultation, intervention and treatment.

What does speech therapy treat?

Speech therapy treats a variety of diagnoses/conditions, including but not limited to: aphasia, apraxia, dysarthria, dementia, ALS, head and neck cancers, Huntington’s disease, developmental delays, orofascial myofunctional disorders, paradoxical vocal fold movement, stuttering, stroke, vocal fold nodules, polyps or paralysis, nervous system disorders, prematurity/low birth weight, cleft lip/palate, brain injury, Parkinson’s disease and spinal cord injury.
