Rehabilitation

The Bay Area Mobility Center is the home of a wide range of services that are all centered on movement or mobility. Whether it’s recovering from a sprained ankle, coming back from an on-the-job injury, meeting special needs caused by a childhood disease or recovering from surgery, our goal is to give our patients back ability to move through life.

The center is spacious and comfortable, with more than 20,000 square feet on a single floor. It is located right across Shore Drive from Bay Area Medical Center and is within one block of 10 physician offices, making it very convenient for patients who may have more than one appointment on a particular day. It houses all the BAMC services previously offered at the Main Street location as well as four physicians offices and a new, warm-water aquatic therapy pool.

Mobility Center named a "Place To Be" by Med Travelers.

Aquatic therapy pool

The 16-by-20-foot warm-water therapy pool is an option for patients experiencing pain, restricted motion, or decreased strength or mobility. Many people are restricted in the exercise or activities they can perform because of pain or weakness. When in the water, patients’ pain is reduced and they can begin rehabilitation sooner. Water supports the body, reduces joint stress and provides resistance and assistance to movement.

The pool features a hydrolift chair for patients who have a problem using the ladders to enter the pool. The pool depth ranges from three to five feet, so patients do not need to know how to swim to take advantage of aquatic therapy. There’s an in-the-water treadmill and resistance jets along with a variety of restrictive and floatation devices to meet specific therapy needs. Your therapy will be done with one-on-one direction by a licensed therapist or therapy assistant who will be with you in the pool area at all times. Private locker rooms are also available for men, women and families to change clothes.

Patients find that doing their therapy in the pool protects their joints during exercise, reduces stress, and decreases swelling and pain. Time spent in the pool can help increase circulation, strength and endurance while also improving balance and coordination.
