The nuclear medicine department consists of 3 staff members with over 34 years of experience who are registered with the Nuclear Medicine Technology Certification board.
The department utilizes 2 units, both of which are accredited by the American College of Radiology, meeting machine quality guidelines, image quality standards and staff credentials.
One unit is utilized for cardiac stress tests, and the other unit has the latest technology, producing superior imaging quality, decreased patient exam time and less patient radiation dose.
The department must meet rigorous state and federal regulations. Physicists' inspections are done quarterly to ensure compliance with these regulations.
Nuclear medicine studies are done to evaluate organ metabolic function. Examples of studies include cardiac imaging, lung scans to rule out blood clots in the lungs, bone scans to diagnose bone structure abnormalities and thyroid therapies.
